22nd New Zealand Jamboree 2020

41 Scouts, Venturer Scouts and Leaders from the ACT attended the 22nd New Zealand Jamboree over the Christmas/New Year break as part of the 420 member Australian Contingent.

Australian patrols were hosted in 35 of the 80 New Zealand Jamboree Troops at the Mystery Creek Events Centre near Hamilton on the central North Island.

Highlights of the Jamboree were the wide range of activities including sailing, canoeing, rifle target shooting, rock activities, jet boating secretly coded as bird watching, just to name a few.

The Jamboree was developed by 12 youth members known as the Jamboree Patrol (Scouts and Venturers), who also created the activity program, menu and ran the opening and closing ceremonies.

From the sales of 1 of the Jamboree Day Badges, on behalf of Scouts Australia I was honoured to receive a $5000 donation from the Jamboree towards fund raising efforts assisting Australian bushfire recovery.

Following the Jamboree 149 members of the Contingent stayed on for a 1 week tour of the central North Island.

Attending a New Zealand Jamboree is a perfect first international scouting experience and it was for 2/3 of the Contingent.  The other 3rd of the Contingent had attended AJ2019 and have experienced a smaller scale event which still had plenty of action and fun activities with the addition of grassed camping sites.
